Arrest of 42 Afghan refugees by the Turkish Coast Guard

The Turkish Coast Guard identified and detained 42 Afghan refugees, including 15 children, on a boat.

The detained asylum seekers were sent to the repatriation center for foreign nationals in Izmir

According to Turkish media, the command teams of the Coast Guard intervened after identifying a group of “illegal” asylum seekers in a plastic boat in Dikili area, Izmir city.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Interior of Turkey, in 2023, 68 thousand and 687 Afghan refugees were detained and the majority of them were deported.
