Spain to not join US-led coalition to protect ships in Red Sea

Spain has announced that it will not join the US-led coalition to protect international ships in the Red Sea.

The Spanish Defense Ministry said in a statement that the decision was made after several days of discussion and analysis.

So far, the United States, Norway, Bahrain, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, and the Seychelles have joined the coalition.

The goal of the coalition is to counter attacks on international ships in the region by Houthi rebels in Yemen who are supported by Iran.

Spain has not yet explained the reasons for its decision not to join the coalition
