Pakistan’s human rights group slams government’s ‘blatant interference’ in elections
A human rights group based in Pakistan has criticized the government’s “blatant interference” in the country’s upcoming elections.
The Independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) said that it is unlikely that the parliamentary elections, scheduled for next month, will be “free, fair, and credible.”
The organization also alleged that “enforced disappearances, apparent pressure on party leaders to resign or quit politics altogether, and the recent widespread rejection of nomination papers of candidates” are among the signs of interference in the elections
