Taliban Distributing Cash and Food Aid to Needy Families in Nangarhar and Herat

Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar and Herat provinces have reported that they have distributed cash and food aid to needy families in those provinces.

In Nangarhar, Mawlawi Qismullah Mubariz, head of the Taliban’s Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, told the media that the World Food Programme (WFP), with technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has distributed cash to 2,275 needy families in Jalalabad city, the capital of the province.

Mubariz said that the total value of the aid was 7.28 million Afghanis, with each needy family receiving 3,200 Afghanis in cash.

In Herat, the Herat Red Crescent Society said that it has distributed food and non-food aid to 500 families affected by earthquakes in the Zindajan district of the province.

The Herat Red Crescent said that the aid was provided by the Turkish Red Crescent to the earthquake victims in Zindajan.

The Taliban’s distribution of aid to needy families is a positive development, but it is important to note that the country is still facing a humanitarian crisis. According to the United Nations, more than 23 million Afghans are in need of humanitarian assistance.

The Taliban’s government has been criticized for its handling of the humanitarian crisis. The international community has called on the Taliban to provide more access for humanitarian organizations to operate in Afghanistan.

It remains to be seen whether the Taliban will be able to meet the needs of the Afghan people. The government is facing a number of challenges, including the ongoing economic crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing conflict in the country.
