Malala Yousafzai’s request to the world to recognize gender apartheid in Afghanistan
Malala Yousafzai, a women’s rights activist and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, says that introducing gender apartheid in Afghanistan as a crime against humanity requires the support of United Nations member states.Yousefzai wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday, 19th of August, that he joins the Afghan girls who want to introduce gender apartheid as a crime against humanity.In this regard, he met with the permanent representatives of Malta and Mexico in the United Nations and appreciated their support.Recently, Rina Amiri, the US special representative for women and human rights in Afghanistan, has said that in order to free this country from dependence on aid and poverty, the policies of the Taliban against women and girls must be reversed.According to him, Afghanistan loses more than one billion dollars annually due to the Taliban’s harsh sentences against women and girls.Meanwhile, the “Human Rights Coalition in Afghanistan”, including nine human rights organizations, in a joint statement on March 8, or International Women’s Day, called for justice and accountability for all crimes committed against women and girls in Afghanistan through international courts.
