9 dead and more than a thousand injured in the biggest earthquake in Taiwan in the last 25 years
The number of victims of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Taiwan on Wednesday has reached at least 9 dead and 1,500 injured.
Another 52 people have disappeared in this earthquake, which has been called unprecedented in Taiwan in the past 25 years.
The earthquake struck early Wednesday morning in the sparsely populated rural area of Hualien, but also shook buildings in Taiwan’s capital, although damage was less severe in those areas.
It is said that after the first earthquake, about 300 aftershocks shook the Hualien region.
