“Important” ISIS Group Arrested in Herat

Muhajir Farahi, the deputy governor of the Taliban in Herat, announced the arrest of an “important” ISIS group in the province. Mr. Farahi claimed that those arrested were involved in the attack on the Imam Zaman Mosque in Mohammadi Town, Guzara District of Herat on the 10th of Saur this year. He referred to these individuals as “seditionists,” a term the Taliban commonly uses for ISIS members.

According to a note published by Muhajir Farahi on the social network X, a suicide vest, a vehicle, and several weapons were discovered and confiscated from these individuals. The attack in question took place on Monday night, the 10th of Saur, targeting worshippers at the Imam Zaman Mosque in Mohammadi Town, Guzara District of Herat, resulting in the death of six people, including a woman and a child. ISIS claimed responsibility for this attack.

Abdul Matin Qane, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, stated that an unknown armed individual opened fire on the mosque worshippers with a Kalashnikov. Eyewitnesses also reported that a number of people, including women and children, were injured in this incident.
