Russia Will Use Nuclear Weapons if Threatened

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that if Russia’s sovereignty or territorial integrity is threatened, the country will use all available means, including nuclear weapons, to defend itself. Speaking at a meeting with senior editors of international news agencies in St. Petersburg, Putin emphasized that the West should not take this threat lightly.

These remarks come amid heightened tensions over the war in Ukraine and continued Western support for the country. Putin also accused the West of repeatedly accusing Russia of nuclear threats, but dismissed these claims, reminding that the United States is the only country to have used nuclear weapons during World War II. Despite these threats, NATO member countries have recently allowed Ukraine to attack Russian territory using their weapons.

Observers believe Moscow’s aim with these threats is to prevent further Western involvement in the Ukraine war.
