Moscow Format Meeting in Tehran: Preparations for the Third Doha Meeting on Afghanistan
The Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan is set to take place in Tehran tomorrow (Saturday, June 10). The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and prepare for participation in the third Doha meeting, which will be held in the capital of Qatar from June 30 to July 1.In addition to the Taliban, several countries, including Russia, China, Pakistan, and Iran, will attend the Moscow Format meeting in Tehran. Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, previously emphasized that the main focus of the “Moscow Format Contact Group” would be to consult on the third Doha meeting.
The third Doha meeting has faced significant criticism from political factions, military groups, and women’s protest movements in Afghanistan due to the invitation extended to the Taliban. They have accused the United Nations of legitimizing and granting concessions to the Taliban and have demanded the presence of their own representatives at the meeting. However, it is reported that one of the Taliban’s conditions for participating in the Doha meeting is the absence of representatives from opposition groups.
