Taliban Beats Up Young Student in Kandahar for Carrying Books About Ahmad Shah Massoud
According to reports from local sources in Kandahar province, a young university student was severely beaten, insulted, and humiliated by members of the Taliban group for carrying Persian epic books and books about Ahmad Shah Massoud, Afghanistan’s national hero. His books were also set on fire.
The incident occurred two days ago when the young student was returning from Iran to Afghanistan on the Kandahar-Kabul highway. He said that he was previously unaware that purchasing, carrying, and reading Persian books had been banned in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
The identity of this young student has not yet been revealed. This comes as harassment of young people under various pretexts has increased across the country since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan.
