In today’s news video, we will examine the third anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. Human Rights Watch has highlighted that this anniversary serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing human rights crisis in the country. The organization has stated on its social media accounts that governments engaging with the Taliban should remind them that violations of women’s and girls’ rights, as well as human rights abuses in Afghanistan, are breaches of international law. Meanwhile, women and girls affected by the Taliban’s restrictions report ongoing and severe human rights violations in the country.

On the other hand, the Taliban celebrated the third anniversary of their return to power with special ceremonies and festivities in various provinces of Afghanistan. According to local media reports, these celebrations, including those in Kabul, were held under strict security measures. The Taliban have declared this day as a “Victory Day” and the end of what they call the “American occupation,” announcing a public holiday. However, many Afghans view this day as a “Black Day” and a “Day of the Fall of Afghanistan.”

Additionally, reports indicate that teachers and students in various provinces have been threatened to participate in the anniversary celebrations. It is alleged that Taliban officials have issued written orders to schools to ensure their participation and have mandated the display of Taliban flags in schools and shops across the country.

Finally, following recent clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani soldiers in the Gorki region near the Torkham crossing, the crossing remains closed to passenger and transportation traffic. Some residents from the Torkham area who have moved to nearby regions are facing difficult conditions, spending nights among vehicles due to the closure.
