Karzai Calls for Reopening Schools and Universities for Girls

Hamid Karzai, former President of Afghanistan, called on the Taliban group to allow girls and women to attend schools and universities in a message marking the 105th anniversary of the country’s independence.

Karzai emphasized the importance of education and women’s participation in society, urging Afghans to cooperate in overcoming poverty and advancing the nation. According to UN data, 1.4 million Afghan girls have been deliberately excluded from secondary and higher education.

Despite repeated calls from the international community, the Taliban group has yet to clarify its stance on girls’ education after three years in power.
