Taliban Calls for Return of Former Government Employees to Afghanistan
In a recent development, the Taliban group has called on former Afghan government employees to return to the country. This request was made by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban group, during his recent visits to 11 provinces in the western, northern, northeastern, and northwestern regions of the country.
According to a statement released today, Thursday, September 12, by Taliban spokespersons, Akhundzada said: “Former government employees should return to Afghanistan and live their lives with dignity, as the dignity of home cannot be found anywhere else.”
During these trips, the Taliban leader met and talked with officials and fighters of this group, elders, and religious scholars. In these meetings, he emphasized the importance of unity, accord, and brotherhood, and asked everyone to stand by what he calls the “Islamic system.”
Akhundzada also asked scholars to focus on reforming society through corrective speeches and “truth-oriented” statements. He stressed that Taliban officials should pay special attention to the implementation of “justice and Sharia law.”
These statements come at a time when many former Afghan government employees have left the country since the Taliban came to power in August 2021. The request for these individuals to return could indicate the Taliban’s effort to gain more legitimacy and improve the country’s administrative situation.
However, many international observers have expressed concern about the human rights situation and civil liberties in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. This issue could pose a serious challenge for the return of former employees to the country.
