Iran’s Leader Knew of Nasrallah’s Assassination Plot

Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, was aware of Israel’s plan to assassinate Hassan Nasrallah, the former Secretary-General of Hezbollah, days before the attack. Reuters reported that following the explosion of Hezbollah’s pagers, Khamenei had asked Nasrallah to return to Iran.

An Iranian official told Reuters that Islamic Republic’s intelligence sources indicated Tel Aviv’s intention to assassinate Nasrallah. The official added that a senior IRGC member who shared this information was killed alongside Nasrallah in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut.

It is said that Iran’s leader has been in a secure location since the death of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General. Reuters also reported that Khamenei ordered Tuesday night’s missile attacks. Subsequently, Iranian security officials announced that these attacks were carried out in retaliation for Nasrallah’s death.

Hassan Nasrallah was killed on September 28 in Israeli army airstrikes in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

This event has significantly escalated regional tensions.
