Forced Return of Afghan Refugees to Their Country
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that it has assisted more than 48,300 Afghan returnees from neighboring countries in the current calendar year. The organization announced on Monday, October 30, that over 98% of these migrants have returned from Pakistan.
According to this report, the rate of deportation and return of Afghan migrants has doubled compared to the previous year. In September, the highest number of migrant deportations and returnees was recorded from Iran.
Interviews conducted with returnees indicate that most of them have returned to Afghanistan due to fear of arrest, deportation, and abuse by Pakistani police. Additionally, returnees from Iran have stated that they have returned to their country due to deportation, discrimination, fear, and abuse by the police.
Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration reports that in the past three months, more than 800,000 people have left Afghanistan. This organization had previously announced that in the past three to four years, about eight million people have migrated from Afghanistan.
These alarming statistics demonstrate the critical situation of Afghan migrants and the challenges they face in neighboring countries. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is striving to support the rights of these migrants by providing necessary assistance
