U.S. Elections and Their Impact on Afghan Policies
During the election campaigns of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Afghanistan has been a recurring topic. This issue is particularly significant for Afghan-Americans as the election outcome could lead to changes in U.S. policies towards Afghanistan. Mohammad Javad Rahimi, a Democratic elected representative from California, who immigrated to America 11 years ago, is actively working to rally Afghan-American support to stop Donald Trump.
On the other hand, a campaign known as “Afghans for Trump” has been initiated by Afghans who oppose the Taliban regime. They believe that American power is the only force capable of standing against the Taliban and preserving both American interests and the aspirations of the Afghan people.
This is the sixth consecutive U.S. presidential election where Afghanistan has been a central issue, highlighting the significant role Washington has played in Afghanistan over the past two decades. Given the differing views of the candidates on U.S. policies in Afghanistan, the election results could have major implications for Afghanistan’s future.
