Taliban’s Education Minister Accused of Embezzling $150,000 from UAE-Funded University
Local sources report that Neda Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, has allegedly misappropriated $150,000 from faculty and staff salaries at Sheikh Zayed University in Khost province. The funds were originally provided by the United Arab Emirates.
According to sources, after Nadim’s interference was discovered by the university’s financial supporters, salary payments to professors have been suspended for nine months. The situation has created significant challenges for the institution’s staff.
The UAE had previously proposed a plan to increase professors’ salaries to approximately $1,000, but the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education rejected this proposal, reportedly due to the exclusion of mullahs from receiving benefits in the province.
