Biden: Assad’s Fall, A Perilous Moment for the Middle East

بایدن: سرنگونی اسد، لحظه ای پرخطر برای خاورمیانه

On Sunday, December 8, U.S. President Joe Biden described the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria as a “fundamental act of justice,” but also warned of a “perilous and uncertain moment” in the Middle East. Biden praised the efforts of the United States and its allies in weakening Assad’s supporters, including Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah, stating that these countries can no longer defend Assad’s power.

The U.S. President mentioned the rebel groups that overthrew Assad, noting, “Some of these groups have a dark history of terrorism and human rights violations.” He added that the U.S. would assess not just their words but also their actions.

Biden also emphasized that 900 U.S. troops would remain in Syria to prevent ISIS from rebuilding and exploiting any power vacuum.

Meanwhile, Russian news agencies reported that Bashar al-Assad and his family have sought refuge in Russia and are in Moscow. An anonymous source in the Kremlin stated that Russia has granted asylum to Assad and his family for humanitarian reasons. #Biden #Syria #Assad #MiddleEast #Russia #Iran #Hezbollah #ISIS
