Saleh Links 1974 Monarchy Fall to Taliban’s Rise in Two-Hour Indian Interview

امرالله صالح: سقوط نظام شاهی (کودتای داوود خان) در سال ۱۹۷۴ با ظهور طالبان مرتبط است

Amrullah Saleh, Afghanistan’s former Vice President who served from February 2020 to August 2021, has provided a comprehensive analysis of Afghanistan’s political trajectory. In a nearly two-hour interview with an Indian media outlet, he traced the current crisis to the fall of monarchy in 1974, explaining how religious extremism evolved with Western support during the Cold War.
As a staunch Taliban opponent who later became a resistance leader, Saleh emphasized regional influences in the Taliban’s resurgence. He particularly criticized Pakistan’s role in bringing the group to power.
Maintaining his firm stance against Taliban cooperation, Saleh has publicly declared, “I will never be under the same roof as the Taliban. Never.” Following Kabul’s fall, he emerged as a self-proclaimed acting president and continued his resistance against Taliban rule.
