Photos circulating on social media show that unknown individuals have vandalized the grave of Abdul Ali Shamsi, the former Deputy Governor of Kandahar.
Shamsi was killed in an explosion at the Kandahar governor’s guesthouse on January 15, 2017.
This incident has sparked significant reaction online. Reports indicate that this is not an isolated event, as graves of officials from the former republic have been similarly desecrated and their headstones destroyed in previous instances.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for this act so far. The destruction of graves and disrespect towards the deceased have raised concerns regarding human dignity and the sanctity of burial sites across various provinces.
