Tajikistan officials have announced that the Afghan section of the major CASA-1000 energy project will be completed by the spring of 2027. This regional initiative is expected to enter its commercial operation phase by the summer of the same year, transferring surplus electricity from Central Asia to South Asia.

The Minister of Energy of Tajikistan emphasized in a recent regional meeting that this project plays a critical role in strengthening economic cooperation and expanding clean electricity exports. Construction work has already been completed in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, while the Afghan portion is still underway.

Once fully operational, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will sell their hydroelectric power to Afghanistan and Pakistan during the summer. Afghanistan will receive 300 megawatts of this electricity, while Pakistan will be supplied with 1000 megawatts to help alleviate regional energy shortages.
