Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, has expressed deep concern over the new religious missionary law introduced recently. He warned that the legislation appears to discriminate based on religion, violating international human rights standards.
The newly published law specifically requires all religious preachers to follow the Hanafi school of thought. It also mandates these preachers to promote specific religious concepts, including the virtues of jihad, to the public across various communities.
Critics argue that such laws are designed to expand ideological surveillance and control over the society. The activities of all these religious preachers will be strictly monitored and regulated by the Ministry of Vice and Virtue.
