The leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has strongly advocated for the immediate reopening of the Torkham crossing and other border routes with Afghanistan. He emphasized that the continued border closures are inflicting massive economic damage on local communities and merchants.
Addressing a public gathering, he proposed forming a joint committee of tribal elders and business leaders from both sides to resolve the ongoing border crisis. He criticized the current policy of only opening the crossings selectively during night hours.
The political leader also called for the establishment of special economic zones along the border to boost regional trade and create job opportunities. He noted that prolonged border restrictions and rising unemployment are severely disrupting the livelihoods of thousands of families.
