UN Women has issued a serious warning that the new couple separation guidelines released by the Taliban government significantly increase the dangerous risk of normalizing child marriage.
Susan Ferguson, the organization's representative in Afghanistan, stated that the document fails to establish a minimum marriage age and makes the divorce process considerably harder for women.
Over a hundred human rights organizations have strongly demanded the immediate cancellation of these restrictive guidelines, condemning them for fundamentally violating international human rights standards.
