The Ministry of Refugees of the Taliban government announced that 79 Afghan citizens have been released from various prisons in Pakistan. These individuals had been arrested by Pakistani police for lacking legal residency documents and have now returned home.

The released migrants spent varying amounts of time in detention before crossing back into Afghanistan through the Torkham border. This follows the release of over 300 other Afghan citizens from Pakistani jails just last week.

Despite these releases, there has been ongoing criticism regarding the lack of attention to the plight of Afghan prisoners abroad. Experts point out that the absence of proper advocacy leaves many citizens in uncertain situations in foreign countries.
