Abdul Zahir Qadir, a former Afghan parliament deputy, has been extradited from Kenya to the US on charges of drug trafficking and smuggling heavy weapons. He is accused of leading a major criminal enterprise that dealt in heroin, meth, and heavy arms. The former official now faces justice in a US federal court.

Following extensive investigations by the DEA, Qadir was arrested in Nairobi in April 2025. US authorities state that while posing as a political figure, he conducted dangerous deals involving heavy machine guns with undercover agents. His extradition was finalized on July 10, 2026.

Qadir's family claims the charges are politically motivated and demands a fair trial. However, US justice officials emphasize that his arrest makes the world a safer place, and he faces severe penalties if convicted.
