Pope Leo XIV, leader of the world's Catholics, called for an immediate end to violence against Palestinians in the West Bank during his weekly prayer address in Rome on August 16. He urged the international community to work toward a two-state solution for lasting peace.

The Pope's remarks came amid a surge in Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. In the village of Qasra near Nablus, settlers surrounded Palestinian homes and, according to Reuters, cut off water and electricity to several houses.

Human rights groups describe these actions as part of a broader effort to seize more Palestinian land. This is not the first time Pope Leo XIV has expressed concern over the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, having previously called for a return to political negotiations.
