France's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the fifth anniversary of the Taliban's return to power, saying Afghanistan continues to face a deep humanitarian, economic, and security crisis. France condemned Taliban policies toward women, calling them a "gender-based system of oppression."
France announced it has welcomed over 17,000 Afghans since 2021. In 2025, its aid contributed to over 100,000 free medical consultations, treatment for more than 3,000 children under five, and educational access for 35,000 girls. France also awarded 23 Afghan students government scholarships in 2025.
France stated that normalization of relations with the Taliban remains impossible until they fulfill their commitments on human rights, counter-terrorism, and inclusive governance, and reaffirmed support for UNAMA.
