Bamyan, known for its ancient heritage sites and stunning landscapes, is facing a serious waste management challenge. Plastic bottles, torn bags, and food packaging litter the streets and public spaces across the city, residents say.
Locals blame the lack of public trash bins and infrequent municipal collection — only once a week — as the main causes of the pollution. One resident, Khadija, said garbage trucks collect waste only from one Tuesday to the next, leaving streets dirty for days.
While some residents point to the municipality's failures, others acknowledge that citizens also share responsibility. For a city whose tourism depends heavily on nature and historical sites, environmental pollution poses a serious threat to Bamyan's future as a destination.
