Star India pacer Mohammed Shami insists he is still at the peak of his career and remains determined to earn a recall to the national team, despite being left out of the squad for the New Zealand tour.
Shami, who last represented India in March 2025, told the media, "Hope should always be there. In any profession, in any sport, you should have a goal. Everyone has a goal."
The veteran bowler confidently added, "Sir, I am still at my peak. There is no point in lying. I am very much at my peak." These comments highlight his strong motivation to once again wear the Indian national team jersey.
Shami's omission comes at a time when there are growing concerns about India's bowling attack in the shorter formats of the game. Meanwhile, his 36-year-old contemporary, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has earned a recall to the national side after an absence of almost four years.
Kumar's return and the inconsistent performances of some younger bowlers have led to louder calls for Mohammed Shami's comeback. Many experts and fans believe that Shami's experience and skill could add significant depth and strength to India's pace attack.
Shami is currently playing for his state team in the Ranji Trophy and hopes that a strong performance in the tournament will once again capture the attention of the national selectors.
