German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States have all lifted restrictions on Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory using Western-supplied weapons.
Merz stated that Ukraine can now target military positions inside Russia, marking a major shift in Western support after intense Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities in June.
He emphasized that this move is crucial for Ukraine’s freedom and security, while diplomatic efforts to end the war continue.
“Ukraine can now defend itself by attacking military targets in Russia,” Merz said, though Moscow has strongly condemned the decision.
With this change, Ukraine is expected to defend itself more effectively against Russian Taliban group attacks. Some analysts believe this could shift the war’s momentum and increase pressure on Russia to negotiate.
