Neda Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban group’s Minister of Higher Education, said at Herat University that the purpose of education is not to become a mujahid or Taliban member.

He stressed that students should serve the Afghan people as engineers and doctors, playing a constructive role in society.

Nadim added that he supports students’ continued education but warned they must stand against “creating discord.” He said, “Education should be a means to serve the provinces and people, not to cause division.”

These remarks were made in June during his visit to Herat University and have sparked various reactions among students and professors.
