Taliban officials at the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation announced during their annual report meeting in Kabul that 96,500 transit flights passed through Afghan airspace over the past year.
Fatullah Mansour, the operational deputy minister, stated that an average of 200 flights cross Afghan airspace daily.
The ministry also highlighted other achievements including the expansion of Kabul International Airport terminal, implementation of construction projects, and standardization of air and ground transportation.
Taliban officials added that during the past year, 54,000 returning migrants were transported to their home regions through services provided by this ministry.
According to the ministry’s report, memorandums of understanding in the transportation sector were signed with Russia, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan over the past year, and approximately 200 ministry employees were sent to China, India, and the United Arab Emirates for specialized training.
Experts believe one of the main reasons for the increase in transit flights is recent conflicts in the region, including the Iran-Israel conflict and the Ukraine war.
