Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law, Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, revealed in a New York terrorism trial that he was with his father-in-law in an Afghan cave during the September 11, 2001 attacks .
Abu Ghaith testified that bin Laden was worried about America’s reaction and asked him what response the US would show after the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people .
The defendant warned his father-in-law that Americans would kill him and overthrow the Taliban government.
He also confessed that bin Laden told him “We did this” while watching the attacks on television. He added that the day after the incident, he joined al-Qaeda leaders for breakfast and recorded threatening videos against Americans, including one warning that “the storm of airplanes will never stop”.
Abu Ghaith’s defense lawyer argued that his client only served as a religious preacher and scholar within al-Qaeda and was not bin Laden’s collaborator after 2001.
