President Trump announced during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that the United States is attempting to reclaim Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan from the Taliban.
He stated: “We’re trying to get it back because they need things from us”.
Trump highlighted the strategic importance of the base, noting that Bagram is located just “an hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons”.
He criticized the chaotic abandonment of the facility in August 2021 during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
These remarks came as Trump has repeatedly criticized the tumultuous US exit from Afghanistan, calling it “gross incompetence”.
Bagram Air Base has historically been one of America’s most crucial military assets in South Asia due to its strategic location near China, Pakistan, India and Central Asia.
