Two senior US State Department officials told media that the United States is reviewing its policy toward Afghanistan.
According to these officials, Washington is currently determined to prevent aid from reaching the Taliban group and described Afghanistan’s situation as catastrophic.
These officials once again emphasized that the US withdrawal in August 2021 should never have been conducted in that manner.
State Department officials added on Wednesday, September 23rd, that America’s main priority in the current situation is achieving two major objectives.
First, preventing Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorists again, and second, ending the Taliban group’s hostage diplomacy and returning American citizens.
This review comes while relations between Washington and Kabul are at their lowest level.
