International Women’s Conference in Spain Addresses Afghan Women’s Rights Crisis
Rina Amiri, US Special Envoy for Afghan Women, delivered a sobering message at a conference in Spain, stating that international efforts to improve Afghan women’s situation have been ineffective over the past three and a half years, with conditions only deteriorating.
The conference, titled “Listen to Us,” was held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Spanish Foreign Ministry in Madrid. It brought together Spain’s Foreign Minister, over fifty Afghan women activists, and special representatives from various countries to examine the state of Afghan women’s rights.
Amiri emphasized unity among women activists, urging them to “Please don’t undermine each other. Unite and support one another even when you disagree.” The conference aimed to assess Afghan women’s rights and gather international support for improving their conditions.
