The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education has banned the teaching of 679 books in fields such as law, economics, and journalism due to “ideological inappropriateness”.
This decision is part of the largest change in curricula, which also includes the removal of 18 university courses.
According to reports, this plan has been introduced under the title “Purification of University Curricula in Accordance with Islamic Sharia and Islamic Emirate Policies”.
The removed courses include constitutional law, human rights, democracy, women’s sociology, and women’s role in public relations.
A committee consisting of clerics, Taliban members, and some university professors reviewed the content of these books and deemed them incompatible with Islamic values.
These restrictions could lead to dangerous intellectual isolation and reduce the global credibility of Afghan university degrees.
