Afghanistan’s national wheelchair basketball team defeated New Zealand in their first match of the 2026 Paralympic qualification competitions.
Officials of the national wheelchair basketball team said that the disabled athletes took the field against New Zealand today, Saturday, and ultimately defeated their opponent with a score of 63 to 56.
The 2026 Japan Paralympic qualification games are being held in Thailand. This victory is considered the first important step for the Afghan team to qualify for the Paralympics and has increased hopes for participation in these international competitions.
According to officials, the national wheelchair basketball team will likely face India on Monday of this week.
This match will also be important for determining the final status of the Afghan team on the path to Paralympic qualification.
