The US State Department, under its “Rewards for Justice” program, has announced a $10 million reward for information on Osama Mahmood, leader of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, and $5 million for his deputy, Atif Yahya Ghori.
According to the statement, Osama Mahmood is a Pakistani national believed by the US to be living in Afghanistan and is responsible for managing the group’s terrorist operations.
Atif Yahya Ghori, born in Islamabad, took over as deputy after the previous one was killed in a US drone strike.
Al-Qaeda’s South Asia branch has claimed responsibility for several attacks in the region and acts as a communication channel among jihadist groups in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Burma.
