A former senior British officer has revealed that the UK’s special forces committed “unlawful killings” and “war crimes” in Afghanistan, with commanders allegedly covering up these incidents.
This revelation follows a BBC News documentary reporting that SAS forces killed 54 people under suspicious circumstances during a six-month period about a decade ago.
The UK Ministry of Defence has launched a new investigation into special forces’ night operations from 2010 to 2013.
The main goals are to clarify whether credible evidence of unlawful killings exists and to assess how military police handled these allegations.
The ex-officer stated that the number of enemies killed exceeded the weapons found, and the repeated stories of detainees resisting after arrest seemed implausible. He stressed such acts are neither elite nor justifiable.
