Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has called on the Taliban and Pakistani officials to resolve their growing differences through direct dialogue.
Speaking at a gathering of religious scholars, he emphasized that resuming negotiations is the only way forward and offered to mediate to de-escalate tensions between the two neighbors.
The influential cleric highlighted that recent border clashes and closures have severely impacted civilians on both sides.
He stated that military confrontations would not yield results and urged both Islamabad and Kabul to prioritize diplomatic engagement to restore stability and trust in the region.
Meanwhile, a group of Pakistani scholars issued a joint statement demanding that Afghan soil must not be used by groups hostile to Pakistan. The Taliban, however, have consistently denied the presence of foreign militant groups in Afghanistan, labeling the security issues in Pakistan as an internal matter.
