Azim Gol, a 34-year-old restaurant owner from Khost, has taken social media by storm due to his uncanny resemblance to the late anti-Taliban commander, Ahmad Shah Massoud. Donning the signature “Pakol” hat and traditional attire, Gol says people often stop him in the streets, stunned by his likeness, to take selfies.
Gol, who discovered the resemblance a decade ago, insists his style is not politically motivated but born out of personal preference and respect for Afghan culture.
His videos have garnered thousands of views online, with many users commenting that he looks exactly like the “Lion of Panjshir.”
Since going viral, Gol reports that his restaurant business has boomed by 80 percent. Despite sparking heated debates online between Massoud’s admirers and critics, he remains focused on his life, enjoying the attention and the smiles he brings to those who remember the late commander through his appearance.
