The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA), managed by the Taliban, has announced that over 17 million electronic identity cards (e-Tazkiras) have been distributed across Afghanistan.

The data shows a gender breakdown of approximately 10.6 million cards issued to men and 6.4 million to women.

Officials highlight that the distribution process has accelerated significantly under the current administration, with more than 11 million cards issued since the Taliban’s return to power.

Currently, 81 distribution centers and “Asan Khedmat” service points are operational throughout the country.

Despite the progress in distribution, the cost of obtaining an ID card has recently jumped from 100 to 500 AFN.

Nevertheless, the demand remains high as citizens require these documents for essential administrative services and travel purposes.
