The famous kite-flying festival (Basant), banned for twenty years in Punjab, Pakistan, is set to return to Lahore next spring.

The festival will be permitted for only three days in February.

The use of sharp, glass-coated strings had previously caused numerous casualties, particularly among motorcyclists. Officials warned that violators using dangerous materials could face imprisonment.

The return of this colorful festival is welcome news for Lahore residents, though safety concerns remain.

Police will strictly monitor the sale and use of authorized kite-flying equipment.
