Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister, has stated that approximately 5,000 Afghan refugees are forcibly deported from Iran and Pakistan every day. He described the situation as “painful” and lamented the plight of the returnees .
Hanafi highlighted that most deportees are impoverished women and children who have lost everything in the neighboring countries. They are returning to Afghanistan empty-handed, facing severe economic hardship and a lack of shelter upon arrival .
The mass deportations during the harsh winter months are aggravating the humanitarian crisis. Aid organizations warn that without immediate international support, the lives of thousands of vulnerable returnees are at serious risk .
