The Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Uruzgan has issued a ban on photographing or filming living beings.

The directive was announced by department head Abdul Ahad Omari during a meeting with media officials on Wednesday.

This latest restriction adds Uruzgan to a growing list of over 20 provinces where similar bans have been enforced.

The move represents a severe crackdown on media freedom and visual journalism in Afghanistan.

While the Taliban cite their interpretation of Sharia law for the ban, media advocates warn it threatens to shut down television broadcasting and photojournalism across the country completely.
