The Taliban have announced the construction of a special tunnel in the mountains of Darul Aman, Kabul, stating it is 30% complete.
The Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs claims the facility is intended for storing worn-out copies of the Quran and other sacred texts.
Operating 24/7 with heavy machinery from the Ministry of Defense, this project follows a “special order” from supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.
Similar tunnels are reportedly being built in Kandahar and Helmand.
While the stated purpose is religious preservation, speculation exists that these tunnels could serve as bunkers or shelters.
The involvement of military engineers and the scale of the excavation have raised eyebrows among observers .
