Prominent journalist Farahnaz Forotan has taken to social media to highlight what she sees as a paradoxical approach by the United Arab Emirates toward Afghanistan. In a recent post on X, she pointed out that Abu Dhabi is simultaneously normalizing relations with the Taliban group while awarding a prize to an exiled women’s rights activist fighting against them.
Forotan added another layer to this contradiction by noting that the UAE has also entered into a contract with the former National Security Advisor of President Ghani. She questioned the logic behind engaging with three opposing sides—the current rulers, their vocal critics, and figures from the collapsed republic—labeling the situation as “interesting” but clearly skeptical.
Concluding her statement, Forotan directly addressed the supporters of figures like Asar Hakimi and Ms. Yaftali, asking for their perspectives on these conflicting moves. Her comments have sparked a conversation about the sincerity of international actors and their complex, often contradictory, foreign policy maneuvers regarding Afghanistan’s future.
