The Afghanistan Journalists Center has reported that the Taliban group has completely banned women’s voices from radio broadcasts in Kandahar province. This order was issued by the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Kandahar on National Journalists Day, March 19, 2025.

According to the report, the Taliban has also demanded media outlets to address Hibatullah Akhundzada as “Amir al-Mu’minin” (Leader of the Faithful). Kandahar has become the second province after Helmand where women’s voices are banned from media, and currently, no television networks are operating in the province.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center has condemned this action and reported a 24% increase in violations of journalists’ and media rights in 2025 compared to the previous year. These restrictions have unprecedented increased since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.
